Eye-Full

Recently, Dylan came home from preschool with a letter, a picture of his eyes and a note saying "Signifant Problem Detected".

A) I didn't even know they were doing eye screenings.
B) He has NEVER complained about his eyes or struggled to see anything.

But this letter concerned me. NO one wants to see Significant Problem Detected in a letter next to their child's name.

So I immediately made an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist who only travels through the south on one week a month from NYC.

We waited patiently in the waiting room which was BUSTING with children and made our way back for the "testing."

The nurse whispers to me "Does he know any of his letters or numbers?"

I thought that was odd. Don't all 3.5 year olds?

 I told her he knew them all and he blew her away with his ability to recognize letters, numbers, shapes at 20-20 vision. Next she tested his color blindness and he again called out huge numbers like 44, 93, 25...she was seriously impressed but i really thought she was putting us on for dylan's sake. Until she brought back another nurse to see him. Like he was an eye celeb.

Finally, the icky part of dilating his eyes had to happen.

And he barely made a peep except to say..

"Um, that went in my eye" when she put in the drops.

 We reminded him that this was SUPPOSED to go in his eye.

We had to wait another 30 mins for the drops to work...and dylan kept us up-to-date on the fact that the world was starting to get a bit too bright in his opinion.

When all was said and done and we finally saw the doc...it turned out that the Significant Problem Detected was an error.

 His baby blues are perfect.
