The sound of a heart breaking...

Did you hear that?

The awful sound of shattering bits of heart.

If you didn't, it may be because only a working mother can hear it.

It's the sound that comes when you realize that the working and the mother can't really be seperated.

The sound that makes you realize, even your toddler knows he has to share you with something else.

It's the sound of being in an impossible situation...Every. Morning.

Dylan has perfected the phrase "Mommy's work".

At first is was cute b/c we'd drive by our looming building and he's see it up on the hill and yell out "Mommy's Work!"

He's so SMART, we'd laugh together. And encourage him to say it whenever we drove by.

But now the phrase has come to mean goodbye.

This morning:

Mommy: "Let's get ready to go to Mother Mary's House!"

Dylan (sad): "Mommy's Work?"

Mommy: "Yes, mommy has to go to work."

Dylan: "No, No!"

Mommy: "you're going to play with Mother Mary today! It will be SO fun!"

Dylan: (forlorn) "Mommy's work."

Sigh.
