The older Dylan gets the harder it is to come up with ideas that both challenge and entertain him. At home or outside this is not a problem, because he has endless toys, activities and places to explore.
But when trapped in a pediatricians office...there is only so much a parent can do to appease a 2.5 year old.
It started in the waiting room. My child was the only child talking. And by talking, i mean TALKING in the non-volume control way that only little children can do.
We were relieved that the office installed a new aquarium but Dylan wanted to know the "story" behind every fish.
"What's he doing?" "Is he the bad fish?" "Why is that one swimming?" "Why is he in that hole?"
ENDLESS. QUESTIONS...on volumn 11.
Then came the requests to "Go use the potty."
At home, dylan won't touch the potty with a ten foot home. At the dr.'s office he "tried" 3 times. And each time I had to balance him on the Lou precariously why trying not to keel over on the floor.
When his name was finally called I found it amazing that my little man is now weighed on a NORMAL walk-on scale...(instead of like a bag of apples on a baby scale.) He looked both big and little standing on that scale. But he listened to the nurse's directions perfectly.
When we were safe in an office waiting our turn....that's when things got interesting.
We read all our books. Whipped out all the toys. Colored. Turned off and on the light and ran around the room with the stool....in the first FIVE MINUTES.
And visiting a Pediatrian on a FRIDAY during flu season...is not a five minute wait.
So we resorted to building a fort.
And in fact, that's just where he was when the Doc finally came in.
