The Real Deal

Reading during the commute is so relaxing.

So here's the real deal of being a medical student spouse.

It's not that fun.

You're broke. You watch your best friend work harder than they have in their entire life. They sacrifice their health ( exercise? what's that?), their vanity (dirty t-shirt to class?), their interests ( learning chinese and the banjo in my husband's case), and ultimately their time with family (that's me).

I haven't seen my husband (awake and alone) for more than 2 consecutive hours in almost a month and we still have 3 weeks to go until "The Big Test." We've managed to meet for lunch once. And the one night he took off from studying I was too tired to stay up past 9pm.

We've had to negotiate really big decisions like putting our house on the market, naming our 2nd child, dylan's preschool plan over G-CHAT or even more annoying...TEXT MESSAGE.

However, this man never misses a bedtime with Dylan. He makes us breakfast in the morning and the second he walks in the door.... from sometimes 11 hours of studying... he's in his swim trunks playing in our redneck swimming pool.

So it's hard to complain about ALONE time when it's hardly the most important thing in the world right now.

*sigh*

I guess the reward for all this sacrifice and hardwork is the 6 weeks he'll have off to move us to Alabama, help me birth a baby, and settle us into an entirely new life..again.
