Getting Rabies

How do you make an already stressful time in your life...more stressful?

You rescue a stray puppy.

My husband has the biggest heart on the planet. Like THE biggest.

And going to breakfast last weekend ended up being a huge mistake b/c we came across a lost puppy that everyone was ignoring and apparently HAD been ignoring for 3 days.

My husband could not let it go. So we loaded the puppy up into our car found an animal shelter and made a plan to get it there. Sounds simple, right?

Wrong.

The aforementioned animal shelter was only open for 2 hours on Saturday. And since there are no street signs or internet websites in these parts, we couldn't find it in time and they stopped answering their phone. So the puppy had to spend the weekend. Which, while annoying, shouldn't be too difficult. We figured we'd keep her in the garage, give her a flee bath and buy a few cans of dog food.

BUT... the puppy, starving from her 3 day adventure alone, dove for her food and nipped my husbands finger...drawing blood. Now if we were TRUE rural Tennesseans we probably would have slapped on a band-aid and gone about our lives.

But if you remember correctly my husband is a 1/2 Dr.

Not only is he a 1/2 Doctor but he's also the son of a doctor, the brother of a doctor and the brother in-law of a doctor. With all this knowledge floating around in one family....we could not just let that bite go. The animal was a stray, had been wandering rural tennessee for days and clearly had not had its shots yet.

The problem with Rabies is once you get it...you die. Like there is no other possibility...you get rabies and you die.

So considering we have WAY to much going on for my husband to potentially, possibly, maybe, remotely DIE...he had to go to the ER and start the MONTH long process of Rabies Shots.

All of this while being less than a WEEK away from the most important test of his medical career so far.

OH...and on top of this Dylan came down with a mysterious virus, our house is finally on the market and i'm two weeks away from maternity leave and moving to alabama.

Long story short...the dog is now at a shelter being WATCHED for RABIES...my  husband has had his second round of shots...dylan has recovered....and i'm still pregnant.

THE END.

  1. So scary! I bet Craig will not bring home any more stray dogs in the future. My thoughts:

Thank GOD the dog did not bite Dylan or you... (Not that Craig is any better, but a toddler and an expectant momma... super scary)

Your life will be SOOOO much calmer in a few weeks. Sure, you will be sleep deprived, but your loose ends will be tied.
